What is Skate Across Indiana?
Skate Across Indiana is an annual, 165 mile, charity skateboarding odyssey across the state of Indiana.
Last year I successfully rode a skateboard 165 miles across the state of Indiana and raised over $3,600 for HIV/AIDS programs in Africa. The ride, which followed a route from the Illinois state line near Perrysville, Indiana to the Ohio State line near Richmond, was incredibly difficult but extremely rewarding. (For a little more background, check out my recap post from last year). This year I, along with a few of my friends, will once again make the trek across the Hoosier state raising money for the amazing work Horizon International is doing in Africa to fight the AIDS epidemic.
Horizon International is a faith-based organization based in Pendleton, Indiana that aims to create hope in the lives of AIDS orphans. Much of their work is focused on providing care, food, scholarships to orphans of this epidemic. Horizon also works to get people educated and involved with supporting the marginalized children of Africa. 100% of the money raised through Skate Across Indiana will go towards funding Horizon’s efforts.
Skate Across Indiana will take place on June 7-8, 2012 and will begin in Perrysville, Indiana (Illinois state line) and end in Richmond, Indiana (Ohio state line). The ride will encompass 165 miles and follow a route through Central Indiana that includes towns such as Crawfordsville, Lebanon, Carmel, Pendleton, and New Castle. The skateboard ride will be completely unassisted aside from a support vehicle carrying supplies needed for success and/or in the case of emergencies.
