Underwater Ice “Fishing” in Finland

When you have a winter that lasts for 6 months, sometimes you have to get a little creative to keep yourself busy. That’s exactly what the makers of “Fishing Under Ice” did in what I’m calling the next video to go viral. A couple of friends decided that going out on to a frozen lake wasn’t fun anymore, so they decided that turning ice fishing upside down would be a little more enjoyable.

These guys ended up cutting a hole in the ice and then putting on cold water SCUBA gear to swim below the surface. I’m not really sure how they managed to not pass out from being upside down for so long, but evidently they know what they’re doing. The next 3 minutes show exactly what turning ice fishing upside down really looks like. Check it out below.

  1. That’s awesome man. When I did my certification dives, the water temperature was just above 40 degrees and the air temperature was below freezing. We did that two days in a row. We had wet suits on for those dives. These guys use dry suits. Imagine putting on a dry suit, diving in cold (and yes, 40 degree water is VERY cold) getting out and not only being dry, but being warm! Maybe that’s why dry suits are so expensive.

Thanks for sharing this man… makes me want to dive. Of course, I will go to the Bahamas or something where the water is near 90!
